JIWA International

Campaign

JIWA International is a non-profit organization that works to identity the physical, mental, and spiritual needs of migrant workers. One physical way that they have started to achieve this need is through Cafe Jiwa, a cafe that provides a taste of home and safe space for migrant workers. As they began their journey with Cafe Jiwa, they reached out to the Service Centered Design course for help. They were in need of a small campaign package including a one-pager, social media post, and giving response card.
I started this process with with sketches of different campaign directions, which I then fleshed out a bit more in Illustrator to pick a direction to fully flesh out. These directions include "Feed Our Space," "Fill Our Cup," and "This Way to..." The directions with the most feedback and potential, according to my professor, fellow classmates, as well as myself, was "Feed Our Space," and "This Way To" so I pursued a revised, more fleshed out campaign. After these revisions and creation of each campaign piece (A4 One Pager, Social Media Post, and Giving Response Card), we had an internal (class) pitch. This pitch was to narrow what direction we would be presenting to the client. This pitch led me to pursue fully fleshing out "Feed Our Space."
Since this campaign was targeted to donors to support the cafe, I wanted to create imagery that showed them what their money was going towards. I wanted a blueprint, sketchy feel to it, showing that JIWA needed their help to make this vision come to fruition. Initialing titling the campaign "Feed Our Space," I thought, "Fill Our Space," was much more suited for it as JIWA needed help filling their space. An added bonus to this title is that JIWA could switch out "Fill" with whatever verb they needed help with. For example, "heat our space," if they needed donations for heating. As a simple, but memorable title, the donors immediately understand what this campaign is for.
My final design for this campaign includes a social media post, A4 one-pager, and a giving response card. As my professor and I continued to talk about the visualization of this campaign, we thought of GIFs. She suggested I try out creating a gif with each sketched object added onto the page. This gives a touch of motion and even more intrigue into this design.
With a group of five other designers for this client, we each presented our single campaign direction to them via zoom. From their the client gave us feedback on zoom as well as more in depth, written feedback via email after we sent them our pitch deck. The client had time to review and choose a couple options to see further revisions on. My direction was one that moved forward for further revisions and ended up being the final one chosen! This project expanded my design knowledge of how to create a small campaign for a client and furthered my interest in client design work.
