Bauhaus Origins: Senior Exhibit
Project type
Mixed Media Installation
Date
Spring 2025
Location
Mechanicsburg, PA
In the 21st century, mass consumerism has become the norm. I’ve noticed that people want to purchase art, but they often choose the mass-produced work over the high-quality work due to its cheaper price and accessibility. This blurs the line between quality work and mass-produced work.
This piece asks us to consider these questions: What are we buying? Why are we buying it? Who made it? Where did it come from? Is the idea copied or derived from something else?
One wall is covered with prints and projection to overstimulate the viewer with a representation of mass consumerism. The adjacent wall contains two large-scale posters with formal qualities inspired by the Bauhaus movement: geometric forms, primary colors, and minimalist design. Artists of the Bauhaus movement wanted to make art accessible through mass production, which we can see in trends today. Art can be expensive and inaccessible, but ultimately I want us to understand the implications of our actions and consider these questions (because let’s be honest, we’re not all billionaires).
